چکیده

The contribution identifies the key parameters of the two WLAN standards, IEEE802.11a and HIPERLAN/2. Applicability of these two standards for WirelessHUMAN systems is analyzed. As the conclusion we propose a way to proceed from the basis of existing standards to a WirelessHUMAN PAR and new air interface standard. Purpose The purpose is to focus the coming PAR by limiting the number of possible standard candidates into minimum. The PAR written by the Study Group should emphasize the applicability of the systems most suitable for a WirelessHUMAN system. Notice This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.16. Patent Policy and Procedures The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802.16 Patent Policy and Procedures (Version 1.0) , including the statement “IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, if there is technical justification in the opinion of the standards-developing committee and provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder that it will license applicants under reasonable terms and conditions for the purpose of implementing the standard.” Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, of any patents (granted or under application) that may cover technology that is under consideration by or has been approved by IEEE 802.16. The Chair will disclose this notification via the IEEE 802.16 web site . 2000-09-08 IEEE 802.16hc-00/09 1 Applicability of IEEE802.11 or HIPERLAN/2 for WirelessHUMAN Systems Mika Kasslin, Nico van Waes

Channel Tracking in Wireless OFDM Systems

In the presented paper, the principle of frequency domain channel estimation for wireless OFDM systems will be shown. A well known noise reduction technique will be adapted to HIPERLAN/2 and IEEE802.11a standards, and its positive effects will be demonstrated by simulation results. Channel tracking has not been considered by the WLAN standards named above, although it is well known that time-va...

Evolution of 5 GHz WLAN Towards Higher Throughputs

A standardization effort has started within the IEEE802.11 Working Group to define the next generation of 802.11 Wireless LANs. This article illustrates how throughput achieved above the MAC layer of 5 GHz WLANs can be increased from an existing 30 Mbit/s maximum with 802.11a to rates exceeding 90 Mbit/s. After a brief review of ongoing WLAN standardization activities, the support of a higher p...

Management of the power control operation in HIPERLAN/2 networks

Abstract: BRAN/WLAN systems, e.g., HIPERLAN/2, IEEE802.11a, etc., are seen as a promising solution for covering residential, business, transport, tourism, etc., environments, and generally areas of high demand, characterized as “hot spots”. This paper presents management functionality for augmenting the potential exploitation of one of these systems, HIPERLAN/2, by making feasible their (loose ...

Evolution Towards Broadband Wireless Systems

Convergence of wireless communications, computing and Internet is on the way. This will be the driving force towards a wireless multimedia society. In this paper, we will overview today’s standards of 3G cellular and wireless LAN systems. There are two trends complementing each other: enhancing the cellular technology (3G WCDMA, cdma2000, etc) and enhancing the wireless LAN technology (HiperLAN...

Requirements for WirelessHUMAN Systems

This document outlines the basic requirements of a fixed BWA system operating in the 5GHz UNII bands. Basic characteristics and limitations of the frequency bands are analyzed, and suitability of some systems (802.11a, 802.16.1 and 802.16.3) for the BWA is speculated. A system model to be used as the basis of the study group work is proposed. Purpose Contribution to initiate discussion at the u...
